Bast Fiber

What is Bast Fiber?

Bast Fiber refers to natural fibers derived from the stem or outer layer of certain plants, primarily composed of cellulose. Examples of bast fibers include flax, hemp, jute, ramie, and nettle. These fibers are obtained by separating the plant's woody inner core from the outer bark, then processing and spinning the fibers for various textile applications. Bast fibers are known for their strength, durability, and breathability, making them suitable for products such as ropes, textiles, twines, and specialty papers. They can be used alone or blended with other fibers to enhance specific characteristics.
